Upload the compendium from each book in your series and get back one merged series bible, with every entry carried forward, later reveals applied, and conflicts flagged for you to settle.

Compendium Consolidator

One series. One bible. No re-reading.

Turn a stack of per-book compendiums into a single series reference in one run.

A series bible is easy to start and hard to keep. Book one gets a tidy character list. Book two adds a dozen names, kills off a favorite, and reveals that the villain's henchmen were never what they seemed. By book three the notes live in four files that disagree with each other, and nobody has time to reconcile them. Compendium Consolidator reads every compendium you upload and merges them into one document that reflects the series as it stands at the end of the latest book.

It works with the files produced by the four Patron Toolbox compendium tools. Run each book through Character Compendium, Location Compendium, Faction Compendium, or Creatures & Plants Compendium on its own, then upload the results here together. You can consolidate one kind of compendium or several kinds at once.

When you upload your compendium files, the tool generates:

  • A list of the files it received, in reading order, with any file it could not place named so nothing is silently skipped
  • A merged census of every character, location, faction, or creature across the series, with an entity that goes by different names in different books counted once and every name recorded
  • One dossier per entry that opens with where things stand at the end of the latest book, followed by each book's account in reading order
  • Later books applied to earlier ones, so a reveal, a death, or a change of side is written into every entry it affects, with the book and chapter named
  • Entries that die or leave the story kept with a status line rather than deleted
  • Every disagreement between files flagged inside the entry, with both versions shown, so you make the call rather than the tool
  • A fixed header at the top so the consolidated file can be uploaded again with the next book's compendium when the series grows

You will walk away with a series bible that is current through your latest book and ready to hand to a narrator, an editor, or your future self.

Use It To

  • Merge the character compendiums from every book in a series into one cast list with one dossier per character
  • Combine character and location compendiums into a single world reference
  • Catch the continuity slips between books, such as a name spelled two ways or an eye color that changed
  • Bring a series bible up to date after a new book without redoing the earlier ones
  • Brief an audiobook narrator on the whole series rather than one book at a time

Why It Works

Each book runs on its own. The compendium tools read one manuscript at a time, which keeps every run fast and reliable no matter how long the series gets. The Consolidator only ever reads the compendiums, which are a fraction of the size of the manuscripts behind them.

Later books win. When book three reveals what a character really was, the tool rewrites that character's entry from the truth the series has established, and does the same for every other entry the reveal touches. Your bible describes your characters as the series knows them, not as book one first met them.

Nothing is dropped and nothing is guessed. Minor characters, one-scene locations, and dead factions all keep their entries. Where two files disagree and no later book settles it, the tool shows both versions and leaves the decision to you.

FAQ

  • What is the Compendium Consolidator? Compendium Consolidator is a Patron Toolbox tool that merges the per-book compendiums produced by the Character, Location, Faction, and Creatures & Plants Compendium tools into one series compendium.
  • Who should use this tool? Authors writing a series, and anyone keeping a series bible for narration, editing, or continuity across books.
  • What do I upload? The compendium files from each book, saved from the compendium tools as text, Markdown, Word, or PDF. Run each book through its compendium tool first, one book per run, then upload all the results here at once. Fill in the book number when you run the compendium tools, because that is how the Consolidator knows the reading order.
  • Can I mix compendium types? Yes. Upload character and location compendiums together and the tool produces one document with a consolidated part for each type. Entries never cross types, so a place is never merged with a person.
  • What happens when I write the next book? Run the new book through its compendium tool, then upload the consolidated compendium together with the new book's file. The tool treats the consolidated file as settled and merges the new book into it.
  • What if the tool merges two entries that are different people? Tell it in the chat below the results, for example "those are two different people," and it will reissue the affected entries. You can also ask for the whole compendium again with the correction applied.
  • What happens with my data or file? Your compendium files are used only to generate your consolidated compendium and are handled with the same care as other Patron Toolbox tools, not as public training data for general models.
  • How much does it cost? The tool is available to Novel Marketing patrons at the Patron Toolbox level and higher.
