The trouble with a long book

Long books punish new authors twice. Print-on-demand pricing is driven by page count, so a 150,000-word paperback can cost seven dollars or more per copy to produce. You either raise your retail price past what readers will gamble on an unfamiliar name, or you accept royalties too thin to fund your next book.

There is a proven fix. Split one long book into two or three, and everything changes. Each volume prints affordably, sells at a price readers say yes to, and earns a real margin. You also gain what every marketer wants: a series, with a book one you can promote hard and later volumes that read-through sells for you.

Will splitting my book upset readers?

Why not just publish the long book?
