No one controls where Google or an AI assistant puts you, and that is fine. The page itself is yours, you decide every edit, and it stays in your voice.
Feel good about being found.
The quiet worry about your website is heavy. Here is what gets lighter.
You quit wondering if anyone can find you
The nagging doubt eases once a page has had your full attention. You know you gave it a fair chance, and you can get back to your book.
Search results sound like you
Readers meet your page through a small headline and a short summary under your link, and you get to make that first glimpse warm, clear, and unmistakably yours. The blank search box stops staring back at you.
A stranger can tell who you are
When a reader asks ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity about books like yours, you want your name to make sense. You feel confident your site says plainly who you are and what you write.
You never had to become an SEO expert
Plain words and clear choices mean you stay in charge of your own website. You decide which ideas fit your readers, and nothing changes until you say so.
Pick the moment that fits you.
Take one page at a time, whenever a page matters to you.
The week before a launch
Your book page is about to meet its first wave of readers, and you want it to introduce the book and you well. Novelists and nonfiction authors alike walk into launch week with a page they are proud of.
The day your author site goes live
A new homepage or About page is the easiest time to get it right, even before your first book is out. If a publisher controls your book listings, this is the one site you fully control.
The day a new article goes up
You answered a reader's question on your blog, and you want the right readers to find that answer. Nonfiction authors who write on their topic feel this one most.
The weekend you tackle your backlist
Older book pages may have gone up with no search headline or summary at all. Pick the pages you care about most, such as your newest book and the pages your newsletter links to, and give each one its turn.
Bring one page that anyone can open.
You bring
The web address of one published page on your site, such as your homepage, a book page, or a blog post. Use an address that opens for a visitor who is not logged in.
Your work stays private. Author Media does not store, track, or view what you post. The AI services use business APIs with privacy set to the maximum.
You get
Search titles and descriptions to paste into Yoast SEO or Rank Math, plus a ranked list of fixes for the page, with a chat afterward where you can ask about any suggestion.
The tool suggests changes, and you make them on your site. AI can misread a page or suggest wording that does not fit your readers, so check each suggestion before you publish it. No tool can promise a ranking, more visitors, or a mention by an AI assistant.
Before you begin
What is SEO/GEO Optimizer?+
SEO/GEO Optimizer is an AI tool from Thomas Umstattd Jr. for authors who want readers and AI assistants to find their website. It serves any author with a public website, fiction or nonfiction, indie or traditionally published, with a book out or not yet.
What does the GEO in the name mean?+
You may have seen the letters and wondered if you are missing something. GEO stands for generative engine optimization, which means making a page easy for AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to understand and summarize. SEO, search engine optimization, does the same job for search engines such as Google. The name covers both.
Will this get my site to the top of Google?+
It is natural to hope for the top spot, and no tool can promise it. Search results depend on many things beyond one page, including other sites and changes the search engines make. The same is true of AI assistants, and no tool can make one mention you. Your own pages are the part you control, and you can give them your best effort.
Do I need WordPress or Yoast SEO?+
No, and you do not need to be technical either. It works with WordPress and with the search settings many website builders offer, and any public page on any site works.
Which pages should I run?+
You do not have to tackle your whole site in one sitting. Start with the pages you most want readers to find, such as your homepage, your newest book page, or a popular article, and run them one at a time. For a blog post still in draft, use Blog Optimizer first. For your Amazon book page, use Amazon Page Optimizer.
Is it useful before my first book comes out?+
Yes, and it is a good time to start. A new homepage and About page are the easiest pages to set up well from the beginning. If you do not have a site yet, there is nothing for the tool to look at.
Is my work private?+
Yes. Author Media does not store, track, or view anything you post to this tool. The tools reach each AI through its business API with privacy set to the maximum, so the AI companies do not train on your words.
How much does it cost?+
SEO/GEO Optimizer is included with any Novel Marketing Patreon membership of $10 per month or more. That membership also unlocks more than 80 other author tools in the Patron Toolbox. AI tool use draws from your membership’s credit balance, and the amount used varies with the request.
